How we got here:

After graduating from the University of Southern California with a dual Bachelor’s degree in linguistics and psychology, Jon pursued a Master’s degree in Communication Science, emphasizing bilingual populations. He worked as an ESL teacher with Spanish and Chinese speakers at Asian Rehabilitation Services in Los Angeles and taught English in Japan for a year. Born in Tokyo, the son of a professor of international relations who spoke seven languages including Russian, Japanese, and French, and a mother whose native language was German, Jon lived in four countries growing up. Jon also studied intercultural communication, Japanese, and international relations at Waseda University, before completing graduate studies in Communication Science.

Jon Berton was one of the co-founders of the first accent reduction university clinic in Southern California, when he was a faculty member at California State University, Northridge. Jon is a speech language pathologist with over 25 years of experience, holds a teaching credential in speech communication, and is certified in three accent training methods. Jon has also worked as a communication consultant for dozens of Fortune 500 companies such as Amazon, Coca Cola, American Express, Google, as well as many technology companies, financial institutions, hospitals and start ups. Jon has ongoing global clients, in China, Europe, South America, Singapore, and all over the United States.

After completing training with the late Sam Chwat of New York, dialect coach to the movie stars, Jon worked with over 100 actors to refine scripts and learn clear voice and diction. Jon has lived in CA, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Texas, working with Southern regional dialect modification, as well as New York, and “Island dialects”. With nearly three decades of speech consulting experience, it’s safe to say Jon is one of the top accent and dialect coaches in the United States.
